Sunlight Air Supports Islands of Imagination in Empowering Youth Across the Philippines
Sunlight Air continues its commitment to supporting community initiatives by partnering with the Tukod Foundation for the Islands of Imagination festival, a youth-driven movement that strengthens Filipino creativity and cultural identity across remote islands of the archipelago.
Beginning in 2025, Sunlight Air helped bridge the initiative to island communities by flying the project team to Siargao, enabling them to bring creative workshops directly to young people living in remote areas. This support continued through 2026, allowing the program to reach more communities and deepen its engagement with island youth.
Islands of Imagination gathers multidisciplinary artists and youth leaders from across the Philippines to work with young people in exploring their stories and heritage through art, music, and dance. During the program’s first phase, workshops were conducted in four island communities—Halian, Anajawan, Mam-on, and Suyangan—engaging around 200 youth participants. Each community produced and composed original songs and dance pieces inspired by their culture, environment, and everyday island life — all in their local language to further conserve and empower their culture in the arts.
The initiative also created meaningful dialogue between island and city youth. Students from Poblacion National High School and Pedro E. Diaz High School participated in creative workshops where they reinterpreted island stories through their own artistic perspectives.
The project this year, concluded with the Islands of Imagination Festival, featuring exhibitions and the culmination of performances in Manila and Siargao. The festival highlighted the collaborative works created throughout the workshops and celebrated the power of creativity to connect our cultures to strengthen one another. For the first time in seven years, the four remote islands united together in this festival to celebrate their local heritage through art, dance, and song, empowering pride of place, and confidence in the power of creative storytelling and collaboration.
Through this partnership, Sunlight Air helps make it possible for initiatives like Islands of Imagination to reach island communities, bringing opportunities for creative expression, cultural preservation, and youth empowerment closer to the people who inspire them.
